Anyone have tips on keeping cat from using kiddos sandbox as catbox?

Anyone have tips on keeping cat from using kiddos sandbox as catbox? (aside from the obvious: get rid of the cat or sandbox :) Tx in advance!

1. Close the cover on the sandbox when your kids are not playing in it, and keep the cat inside when the kids are playing, or if it is an outdoor cat, monitor and keep the cat out of the box when your kids are playing in it.
2. Here's an even more obvious one: get a cover for the sandbox and use it ;)
3. Get rid of the cat!
