what can I put in my kids sandbox to keep fleas out of it?

My kids always seem to break out with what looks like tiny bites when they play in the sand box. Any ideas as to what it could be? I'm guessing sand fleas but not sure.

1. Get some DE, diatomatious earth, not the stuff you put in pools, but food grade..It will keep any bug out of there..Do a search on it, and there are only a few companies that sell it
2. Diatomaceous earth might do it. I got a bag from lowes last year and it has done wonders controlling ants and the occasional bug that thinks it is going to set up residence in my kitchen!
3. Salt(normal table salt) they eat the salt(the fleas) and dehydrate then die of coarse it may take a lot but it is safe and effective and cheap ;) good luck
4. I basically have the same answer as Amy. I just read today about using salt on the floors and carpet of your house if you have fleas. The salt dehydrates them. Can't hurt to try it.
