There are little tiny bugs in my kids sandbox- How do I get rid of them without using harmful pesticides?

I don't want to throw away all of the sand and buy new. I just bought this sand a few weeks ago. The sandbox IS covered , but not sealed when not in use.

  1. Give this a try, sprinkle Cayenne Pepper all throughout the sand or a very harsh spice of some sort.
  2. Borax powder is not toxic to humans. Black pepper is good but you don't want to use any sort of pepper where kids are going to be playing... It will get into their eyes eventually. A lot of bugs also hate cloves (whole cloves)
  3. If the sandbox is outdoors (and who puts a sandbox indoors?) there will be bugs. Unless they are dangerous in some way, such as fire ants, just ignore them. If you don't make a big deal about them your kids probably won't care.
  4. I would go to the local hardware store and see what they suggest. If they're just gnats or something, I wouldn't worry about it too much, but if it's ants, you may need to use something to get rid of them. Maybe try to collect some of the bugs in a sandwich bag or something and see if the hardware store employees have an opinion on what to use.
  5. Try Cinnamon many bugs including ants and beetles don't like it.
